Coraggio has been an advisor to Knowledge Universe, parent company of KinderCare Learning Centers and Children’s Creative Learning Centers, on a number of projects since November of 2011. Knowledge Universe is the largest private early childhood education provider in the US, offering early childhood education and care through approximately 1,700 community- based centers and more than 400 middle school supplemental education solutions nationwide. They employ more than 30,000 education professionals and have the capacity to work with more than 200,000 children daily.


During the recession, Knowledge Universe had experienced 13 consecutive quarters of declines in the business. Concurrently, management was experiencing significant change, with turnover at the executive level and concerns about the quality of curriculum that no longer led the early childhood education industry. As a new CEO and turnaround expert joined the company, the company’s leaders recognized the need to rally the company around a clear strategic direction.

Coraggio was engaged as part of a concerted effort to build Knowledge Universe’s strategic plan. The planning process needed to not only deliver a strategic plan that would support the turnaround of the business, but also ensure buy-in and engagement with the key tenets of the plan with both the leadership team as well as center directors in every one of the 1,700 centers nationwide.


Coraggio designed and facilitated a comprehensive enterprise-level strategic planning process, which helped to set the stage for company turnaround and growth. As part of this process, we engaged with the leadership team and facilitated alignment around the company’s current situation, desired outcomes, and the priorities that would move the company forward in achieving those goals. The three-year plan placed an emphasis on building up quality, engaging with teachers, building a world-class curriculum, returning operating authority to the individual centers, and streamlining operating policies and procedures.

In addition, Coraggio has provided ongoing support to ensure the successful implementation of several strategic initiatives, including the rollout of new products for corporate-sponsored early learning centers, the evaluation and optimization of customer touchpoints, and the establishment of project management and functional planning processes.
