Leadership isn’t easy. In fact, it’s one of the hardest things we’ll ever do. I work with leaders at all levels to help them focus on what’s most important—whether it’s related to a getting clear on the root cause of a specific challenge or. in a broader context, setting and then communicating a bold and inspiring vision for their organization. I believe no two client matters are the same, just as no two organizational cultures are the same. To add the greatest value, this requires me to show up in different ways depending on the breakthrough that’s needed. Sometimes I act as a facilitator and guide. Other times play a coaching or confidant role. Being flexible in this regard helps move my clients forward and creates the space for them to learn and grow along the way.
When I’m not working, I’m usually cycling. Several years ago, a friend invited me to a cyclocross race (think road bike frame with knobby tires on mud and gravel). It was November and the misty Oregon weather didn’t disappoint. That’s all it took to get me hooked.
