As a prominent player in the fast-emerging energy conservation industry, Portland Energy Conservation, Inc. (PECI) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to creating the new energy economy. They create custom, cost-effective energy efficiency programs and solutions for residential, commercial and large commercial building types.
PECI needed to develop a strategic plan that was responsive to a demanding and fast- changing market. With a rising national consciousness around conservation, energy efficiency had become more compelling and competitive than ever. In addition to the need for a focused, long- term strategic platform, PECI was in the process of hiring nearly 100 new employees—all within just over a year’s period of time. With this rapid expansion came a great deal of internal change, including the need to explore new organizational structures and further enhance the organization’s leadership capacity.
Coraggio partnered with PECI’s executive leadership team and a cross-section of its management staff to develop a three-year strategic platform. As part of the planning process, we also helped PECI’s leadership to bring even greater clarity to how the organization would define market leadership going forward. We worked with PECI to strike the appropriate balance between being both a mission-focused organization as well as a formidable competitor in a highly competitive environment.
It was important in their strategic planning work to bring these two seemingly divergent perspectives into alignment so that a new, long- term course could be set and PECI could continue to rise to the top as a key player shaping the new energy economy. As part of our work, we provided guidance on a new executive leadership structure that was a core capability the company needed in order to successfully realize the objectives of its strategic plan.
Acquired by CLEAResult in 2014, PECI remains a mission-focused organization and passionate about creating the new energy economy. At the same time, they have successfully sharpened their competitive posture as an influential market leader in both thought leadership and applied innovation.
“ I valued the insight Coraggio brought to each step of the process, helping us see issues in a different way. Especially in their diagnostic work identifying and analyzing unhelpful patterns and problems, they were amazingly accurate and insightful.︎ ”
