Destination Forward is the largest ever study of its kind to assess the value and impact of destination stewardship plans and strategies across the U.S. The study identified 35 leading examples of destination stewardship plans, representing a wide range of destinations from Ketchikan, Alaska, to Vail, Colorado, and San Diego, California, to the Outer Banks, North Carolina. The study assessed the plans’ vision, goals, and recommended actions, as well as their impact on sustainable tourism in their respective destinations. The report assesses the strengths and weaknesses of destination stewardship plans across the U.S. and highlights good industry practices with practical tips through dozens of short case studies.
